CLEMENT MERE

Clément Mère (1861-1940) was born in Bayonne, where he studied under Jean-Léon Gérôme at the Paris School of Fine Arts before returning to the Basque Country. In 1900, he joined the gallery La Maison Moderne, then met Franz Waldraff who became his life companion and with whom he created his studio in 1902.
Clément Mère produces furniture, embroidered fabrics, paintings and tableware in quantity and quality. This can be seen by observing the artist's preparatory sketches. These detailed drawings allow us to understand the artist's creative process and reveal the evolution of his work.
A passionate worker, he has produced numerous creations for the diplomatic corps, national museums and the upper middle classes, including ensembles for the de Rothschild and Frisch de Fels families.
