LELLA & MASSIMO VIGNELLI

Massimo : Milano, 1931 - New York, 2014 - Lella : Udine, 1934 - New York, 2017

Born in Milano, Massimo Vignelli studies architecture. Lella is born in a family working in that field: both her father and brother are architects and her sister teach architecture in Venice. Lella and Massimo met at the end of the 1950’s, and in 1960 the couple inaugurates its Office of Architecture and Design in Milano. There they created furniture, work as interior and exhibition designers… In 1965 they moved to America and in 1972 Massimo redesigned New York metro’s graphics and directional signage. The Vignelli also worked with Knoll.

Their collaboration with the Italian House Casigliani shows a strong modernist tradition with the use of geometric shapes sublimed by nobles materials such as marble or brass. In designs created by Lella and Massimo Vignelli, the Italian creativity meets an Art Deco aesthetic for a beautiful outcome.
